Transfiguration Day 1 - Catholic Action For Faith and Family

Day One – Transfiguration of the Lord

How do we get through days when every little thing irritates us? Sure, we might talk to God with a few words like “You have to take care of this” or “I can’t take it anymore, Lord.”

Quickly throwing up a few words that we think are prayer is not talking to God. We must learn to actually talk to Him. And that implies listening. In Luke’s Gospel of the Transfiguration, we hear the apostle Peter excitedly exclaim plans to memorialize the astonishing event with three tents on Mount Tabor when God the Father’s voice from heaven roared, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!” However, Peter’s plans for tents were not God’s plans. Because Peter was not listening, his ardent plans were struck down. Many of our sincere endeavors to do God’s will also end up in a junk pile of human failure because we have not yet learned to listen prayerfully.

God shows us His will by reminding us, in various situations, to act, or react with kindness, patience, love and forgiveness. He fills us with inspirations to find creative ways to express our concern for others, while we fight our own battles.

When we begin to pray, the light of Christ’s Face will begin to eradicate the darkness:

O Jesus, when I am complaining and deception begins to invade my peace, let the light of Your Countenance shine upon me!

O Jesus, when I only think about the annoyances that are bothering me, let the light of Your Countenance shine upon me!

O Jesus, when I am troubled by fear and doubt, let the light of Your Countenance shine upon me!

O Jesus, when it bothers me that I am judged by others in a negative way, let the light of Your Countenance shine upon me!

O Jesus, when life’s hardships overwhelm me, let the light of Your Countenance shine upon me!

O Jesus, when I cannot see why I should do good things for others that I dislike and do not trust, let the light of Your Countenance shine upon me!

My Lord Jesus Christ, before Your passion and death, Your face changed in appearance and You revealed Your glory to the disciples, Peter, James and John on Mount Tabor. May the Holy Catholic Church that You founded grow in love for You through the Holy Eucharist – the most sweet Body and Blood. I ask that it be a source of joy in all my trials and temptations. I beg You to guide my every word and deed, so that You will find it pure and pleasing. When any person or situation overwhelms me with fear, let me only look to the radiance of Your face as the solution to all my problems. In contemplating Your glorious Transfigured face, I place my needs before You. (Mention your intentions now and especially pray for the needs of Cardinal Burke, as well as his continued good health.) AMEN.

Do you have any intentions to submit for the Three Holy Masses from August 4-6 in Honor of the Transfiguration?
