Our shepherd Archbishop Charles Thompson from Indianapolis, Indiana, is fulfilling his canonical responsibility to oversee faith and morals in his Archdiocese. He is ensuring that a teacher whose lifestyle opposes Catholic moral teaching does not have the power to inform young minds and hearts at a school that identifies as Catholic.

At the end of June, His Excellency courageously stripped Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School of its Catholic label when they refused to follow his directive to not renew the contract of a teacher in a public same-sex “marriage”.

In our relativistic day and age, many have responded negatively to His Excellency’s decision to protect the integrity of the Faith.

In reality, Archbishop Thompson’s decree is instructing the ignorant, a Spiritual Work of Mercy, which is done not by fooling people to think that sinful lifestyles are acceptable. It is done by charitably and compassionately, while at the same time clearly and firmly teaching the Truth.

For his valiant defense of the Faith, I am presenting His Excellency Archbishop Thompson with Catholic Action’s Faithful Echo Award. The Faithful Echo Award is bestowed upon individuals who have performed an outstanding action to demonstrate fidelity to the Faith in word and deed. It is given in gratitude and in recognition of their courageous witness and uncompromising defense of human life, the Catholic Faith, and for their exceptional loyalty to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. 

When a bishop stands at the bell tower of Truth and rings the bell of Fidelity, we the faithful have been given voices to clearly echo that bell.
