Join Us in Growing Closer to Our Lord during this Crisis
Public celebration of Holy Mass has been cancelled in dioceses all over the world, most likely including your own.
In the Diocese of Rome, there was no public celebration of the Easter Triduum. This fact should fill every Catholic with great sorrow!
Ever since the end of Christian persecution by the Roman Empire in the 4th century, the Easter Triduum has always been publicly celebrated in Rome by the for more than 1700 years in spite of war, invasion, famine, and plagues... that is, until this coming Easter. This is a great tragedy!
The unprecedented situation that wrenched us from our routines and architecture of our lives including the suspension of public Masses began just prior to the Fourth Sunday of Lent. With this reality,
Our first concern was to find a way to help our people “keep holy the Sabbath” spiritually during this turbulent period despite their inability to attend the celebration of Mass at their parish.
We worked with our team of priests to design a Spiritual Communion Service that will help fill you and your loved ones with unconquerable hope during this time of crisis when Holy Communion is not available due to the coronavirus.
Spanish & English Versions Available
This ancient custom of Spiritual Communion has strengthened countless Catholics before us in times of persecution when Holy Communion was not available and many saints practiced it and recommended it to the faithful throughout the history of the Church.
This is an inspiring practice to strengthen your personal domestic church, a term that refers to the family, the smallest body of gathered believers in Christ.
The home service reproduces the Readings and Opening/Closing Collects from the upcoming Sunday Mass with a tailored set of Intercessions, Gospel Reflection and Spiritual Communion for deepening prayer. Furthermore, it offers an opportunity for parents, who are “the first preachers of the faith to their children” (LG, 11), to be prayer leaders in their own families. Other family members also have a chance to participate through readings, common responses and devotions.
By signing up, you will receive services for this coming 6th Sunday of Easter.
The Spiritual Communion Service at Home is designed to be distributed electronically on a weekly basis and printed out at home.
Note: The USCCB’s copyright permission lasts until June 1, after which we will reapply if the need for the Spiritual Communion Service program endures for the extended Easter Season.
Needless to say, the Spiritual Communion Service is not meant to be a substitute for participation at the Sunday liturgy but a stopgap measure to keep our people in the “liturgical mindset” until that glorious day when we can all come together again at the altar of the Lord in our local parishes.
This service requires a dedicated Leader, and that should be you!
